Low Thyroid

In July of 2009 while taking a stroke prevention test I found out I had an enlarged thyroid with a large growth. The biopsy was benign, My thyroid test was .19 which is low. My doctor said to have it checked again in July 2010. I told her at the time I was EXTREMELY tired, dry skin, trouble sleeping , Can you give me some advice on Homeopathic medicine that I could take instead of the regular medicine they give for thyroid problems, also is there a certain diet I should be following. I always have been a very hard working woman and never lacked energy even though I am 67 years old. I am sure there is something out there that I can take that is natural. Looking forward to your advice. Rita

Did the doctor put you on Synthroid, which is a synthetic thyroid hormone? It sounds like your levels may be too low. You might want to have your levels checked now, instead of waiting until July. Sometimes the dosage needs to be adjusted, and doctors will regularly monitor your blood levels to make sure you are getting the proper amount. You might also consider seeing an endocrinologist (hormone specialist) instead of a regular MD.

I don't know of any natural remedies for low thyroid; certainly eating a good diet, exercising and getting enough sleep are helpful in general.
