There is swelling as a result of your surgery. It should decrease over the next week or so. Also when the swelling decreases your ability to swallow will improve as well. If you can't talk at all yet touch base with you doctor. Pain when swallowing, or in the neck area can come from the breathing tube after surgery or from the surgery itself. This should subside within a few days; try some ibuprofen to relieve discomfort. (ck with your physician first since he may have already given you something that contains ibuprofen) Your voice may be 3 months. If you had a breathing tube during anesthesia, your windpipe may feel irritated and it may make you feel as if you have something stuck in your throat. This feeling usually goes away within five or six days. Touch base with your physician about the voice loss if it's total. If it's slowly coming back I wouldn't worry, your vocal cords may have been stressed during surgery.
