I also have a thyroid problem, but I think you should talk with your endocrinologist and see what they suggest. Maybe your medication needs adjusted.

I know that having a chronic medical issue can be frustrating, but you probably shouldn't take anything without talking to your doctor first.

Hello Nshah1118. I am sorry to hear that your hair growth has not been satisfactory to this date. Is your thyroid level being checked regularly to determine the correct dosage for your thyroid replacement medication? The hair loss is likely due to a hormonal imbalance, (although a healthy diet is obviously important). This should be discussed with your doctor to determine the best possible treatment for your thyroid imbalance and hair loss.

I did have the same issue with hypothyroidism and thinning hair. The thyroid hormone level had to be adjusted frequently until it reached the proper range. Even now, it has to be tested annually. My doctor also prescribed a low dose of spironolactone, which a potassium sparing diuretic, normally used in the treatment of high blood pressure. Another use for the medication is to decrease aldosterone to promote hair regrowth. (My hair is as thick as ever).

Obviously, a treatment will have to be determined that is appropriate for your particular condition. Contact your doctor to determine if you are still having symptoms of a hypothyroidism. Once there is a hormone balance, you should be able to regrow your hair. (You can also discuss any supplement you are considering, particularly if the product contains herbs). I wish you well. Good luck.

Dear nshah1118
Hypothyroidism can be effectively treated with thyroxin hormone. You can take Vitamin C and E to promote hair growth and prevent loss. But there are no specific clinical trial data to support this claim.

Once your thyroid hormone levels are optimized your hair will regrow. Therefore, you need to meet your doctor and monitor your serum TSH or thyroid stimulating hormone levels. In addition, depending on your disease you need to take life long thyroxin treatment..

Treatment for hair loss

To help grow your hair you can try Rogain shampoo or Minoxidil. It helps to regrow hair even in bald individuals. But your doctor need to prescribe them.

Do not worry about your hair loss and there are effective treatments available for it. In addition, worrying too much can cause more hair loss due to psychological stress.

Hope this helps

Hello nshah1118. If the 2.0 reading is the result of your TSH test, then you are in a good range. Be sure to eat a healthy balanced diet and be patient and try not to be too stressed. Hair grows the fastest in the fall and winter months, so hopefully you'll start to see a substantial difference at that time. I wish you nothing but the best and understand your frustration with the hair loss, but it can certainly grow back. A regular multivitamin can be taken, (but avoid herbal products without your doctor's approval). Good luck and best wishes to you.

Dear nshah1118
A reading of 0.02 of TSH is way too low. You may be taking excessive thyroid hormones or having hyperthyroidism. Your doctor might have adjusted the dose or gave you anti thyroid drugs.

Hyperthyroidism can cause hair loss due to thinning of the hair.
