Too many thyroid cases Hi,

First of all you should get another source for water, whether city or commerical, whatever because this probably won't be remedied too easily or too fast. Use your well water just for things not ingested, even for the animals. Sounds like an Erin Brocovich (Sp?) situation. Hypothyroidism and antifreeze poisoning are linked (cases in dogs, but who cares, biological poisoning is there) the thyroid which is inflammed cannot produce sufficient quantities of hormone for the body, and with the cells not converting energy to usage there's no biological fuel. The animal becomes lethargic, mentally dull: There are hair & skin abnormalities & increased aggression has been reported with antifreeze-related hypothyroidism. Antifreeze poisoning doesn't have to be fatal, at least not rapidly as we all have seen on 'Forensic Files'. On that program they've shown documented cases in which deliberate poisoning has gone on for years, and the victim not died, just very sick. So much about thyroid problems related to antifreeze poisoning deliberate or otherwise. Checking federal and State laws dumping is illegal. One State, MD, has a hotline for reporting it with a $1000 fine for each incident. (MD: 240-777-DUMP). This dumping includes fields, wooded areas, stream valleys, parklands etc., so even on his own property he is breaking the law. Federal & local law in most States requires disposal of antifreeze to be in covered containers which are then RECYCLED by federal law. California also restricts disposal in landfills, storm drains & in sewage: CPG, Comprehensive Procurement Guidelines & the EPA federally requires procuring agencies to buy recycled content products. Don't know what agency DEP is but antifreeze crystals or some by product of antifreeze must be in the water. Check hazardous waste permitting agency & sewer regulatory agency in your area. Try to get a court injunction to keep him from doing business. You can sue him later. Even sewer contamination is outlawed because antifreeze destroys the friendly bacteria needed to make the septic system work. US EPA 202-272-0167. California: 916-341-6000.

Someone suggested that we be tested for heavy metal poisoning, either by bloodwork or hair follicle. I have a doctor's appt. next week and will talk to him about this. We did have a reverse osmosis filter installed, but don't know how much we should count on that. This is the first that hypothyrodism and antifreeze being linked has been mentioned and I will address that to the Dep. that is looking into this. I am currently waiting for this man to crush cars again and then I am taking my own water sample from the run off that comes down through my farm and have it tested. Don't know how much this will cost us, but something needs to be done.
We don't have public water here, everyone is on well water, so other than having someone haul in water, we don't have much choice. When my family comes to visit, I make sure everyone drinks bottled water, especially my 2 yr. old granddaughter. I am having my farm vet run bloodwork on another dog this week to see if she also has thyroid trouble. And I don't know what to do if she comes back positive.
My daughter's endrocologist said that this is unusual and that sometimes a cluster like this will show up and no one can find out what is causing it. But, we had no trouble until this man started crushing cars. I read somewhere that there is something in the airbags of cars that is really bad for us. And that could be another big problem if this powder is getting into the water system.
I am trying to get a list of things to be tested for when I take this next water sample in.
Thank You

Yet, another thyroid case!
We have another dog that tested positve for hypothyroid. I have four dogs and three are on synthroid now and one in the past had thyroid cancer. Really worried now. Also, a horse, my husband, my daughter and myself, all on synthroid. We are up to 8 cases in 10 yrs.
My family doctor is sending my to see a endocronoligist (sp) and also wants me to talk to him about being tested for heavy metal poisoning. I see him in June.
My farm vet is coming next week to test 2 ponies and a goat for thyroid trouble and I am going to think that everyone here has thyroid trouble if they come back positive.
I put in another call to DEP and am waiting to hear back from them. I want them to test my water for everything mentioned here. I don't trust the reverse osmosis filter we had installed last year after all of this, we have gone to buying bottled water. This is becoming very expensive, with the vet and doctor bills, blood work and all of the meds. The dogs dose is much, much higher than a human
dose.
If anyone can think of anything else that can be causing this, please let me know. I really appreciate all of your help.
Thanks,
Joyce
