Why after 35 years on 2 gr Armour thyroid supplement would I now require only half that amount

My doctor has reduced my thyroid supplement in half. I feel horrible after 3 months on this dosage....achy, stiff, no energy or enthusiasm. Just want to sit and try not to hurt

You should ask the doctor specifically why he or she made the change in dosage. Hormone levels do shift and change, and perhaps your blood test results indicated your levels had been too high. Also, there have been some changes in thinking about dosing levels---some patients have been given doses that were too high in the past.

Do you see an endocrinologist or an internist? If you are using your internist for this, and don't feel like things are getting handled well, try an endocrinologist. Endocrinologists specialize in hormones, and usually will run more sophisticated tests and look at a wide range of hormone levels and interactions with medicines, etc.

Good luck to you.
